I delight to do thy will,
O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
Psalms 40:8
DELIGHT
In this passage of
scripture it is very easy to sense the exceeding joy
of true service that is birthed out of divine love!
Notice also the gratification that is expressed in
the fulfilment of the divine will of God. The word
delight here means to be incline to. We as christians
should be inclined to the will of our heavenly Father
to the degree that we can say with Christ "not my will,
but thine be done". Not only to incline to, but to have
pleasure in doing the will of God. The Lord declared
"my commandments are not grevious to them that love me",
and again the word states "god loveth a cheerful giver".
How then can one so cheerfully give their life? The
answer is found in the later half of the verse.
There can be no delight in the service of God until
the divine law is within our heart. The word within here
means to sever, to bisect, and by implication "the center".
In effect we see a heart that is transplanted by God, a
heart that is filled with the divine law of God!
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit
will I put within you: and I will take away the stony
heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart
of flesh. "ezekiel 36:26" Even so Lord place your
law in our hearts that we may serve you with
exceeding joy!
