DEVOTIONALS

Morning Clouds (21,210 bytes) TODAY'S SCRIPTURE VERSE:

When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.    Matthew 13:19

WAYSIDE HEARERS

How often in the course of life do we catch ourselves, even though we may be in the midst of a conversation, our mind drifts, and we hear but don't understand what is being said. How many services do we sit in the house of the Lord and hear the word of God, but because of distractions the word is never settled in our hearts, and the wicked one cometh and stealeth God's word from us?

In this passage of scripture the term "wayside" refers to unprepared ground. It would be foolish of a farmer to sow seed in ground that has not been prepared. Likewise there is very little if any chance of the word germinating in an unprepared heart. Whether it is reading the bible, or setting under the preaching and teaching of God's word, there will be very little if any results if we have not prepared our hearts to receive with meekness the engrafted word which is able to make us wise unto salvation. "Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you." Hosea 10:12 If there is to be spiritual growth we must prepare a proper place for the word! "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:" I Peter 2:2 "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:17 Help us Lord not to be wayside hearers!
